What happened to Hyprnote?

Hyprnote was an open-source AI notepad for meetings, pitched as an open-source alternative to Granola. It has been renamed twice in 2026:

The app now lives at anarlog.so, and the code is at github.com/fastrepl/anarlog. The name Char now belongs to a different product at char.com, an AI to-do notepad, so if you land there you are not looking at the old Hyprnote. The rest of this page uses the current name, Anarlog.

The short version

  • Both record meetings locally with no bot. Anarlog and TranscribeX capture your Mac’s audio and can transcribe on the device.
  • Anarlog’s free plan is open source and has no minute cap for local transcription or your own API keys. Its app moved from GPL to the MIT license.
  • Anarlog Pro is $14 a month or $140 a year and adds cloud transcription, cloud AI, sync across three devices, sharing and dictation. TranscribeX Pro is $39 once.
  • TranscribeX puts more into local processing: automatic speaker recognition with Voice Profiles, a built-in AI model, and summaries emailed after each call.

Anarlog details from anarlog.so (pricing and the “Char is now Anarlog” post), char.com/changelog/1.0.14 and github.com/fastrepl/anarlog, checked October 2026. “Not found on its site” and “not checked” mean we couldn’t confirm the feature, not that it is missing. Two ideas of a meeting notepad

Anarlog grew out of Hyprnote, an AI notepad for meetings, and it still centres on notes: its free plan includes notes, templates and chat, stored locally in SQLite with Markdown export. Pro adds the cloud, with sync across devices and sharing with teammates.

TranscribeX is built like a recorder that finishes the job. It notices the call, records audio and optionally video, transcribes, names the speakers and sends the recap. You can take notes in the live transcript window and they are woven into the summary. You can also leave it alone and get the email.

Neither approach is wrong. If you like to type during calls and want your notes synced, Anarlog fits. If you want the meeting documented without thinking about it, TranscribeX fits.

“TranscribeX has been great! I am on 20+ calls weekly and this tool has become invaluable for call transcripts, and without any subscription or sending my data off to the cloud! I've emailed support on a few occasions and Ethan has been extremely responsive, top notch support!”

Who said what, offline

Anarlog’s pricing page lists manual speaker labeling on the free plan, and we didn’t find automatic speaker detection there as of October 2026. TranscribeX runs the open pyannote community-1 diarization pipeline on the Neural Engine. It works out how many people spoke, with no upper limit, and names people you have saved as Voice Profiles in every later meeting. Speaker names carry into the summary, the chat and every export. More on speaker diarization.

What it costs

Anarlog’s free plan is a real free plan: unlimited on-device transcription, your own keys for speech and AI, notes, templates, chat and exports. You pay for Pro if you want its cloud: managed transcription, cloud AI, sync and sharing. TranscribeX Pro is $39 once and is all local, apart from optional online providers you connect yourself.

Coming from Hyprnote

If you used Hyprnote and the renames sent you looking around, TranscribeX is easy to try next to it:

The other open-source option people compare is Meetily. For a cloud note taker, see Granola. For file transcription on the Mac, see MacWhisper and Aiko.

Hyprnote and Anarlog: FAQ

Is Hyprnote still available?

Yes, under a new name. Hyprnote was renamed Char in early 2026 and then Anarlog, announced on May 3, 2026. The current app is at anarlog.so. The char.com website now belongs to a different product.

Is Anarlog free?

Anarlog has a free plan with unlimited on-device transcription and no minute cap for local models or your own API keys. Anarlog Pro costs $14 a month or $140 a year and adds cloud transcription, cloud AI, sync, sharing and dictation (checked October 2026).

Is Hyprnote open source?

Yes. The community app is open source on GitHub at fastrepl/anarlog. Its license changed from GPL to MIT. Enterprise components are commercial.

How is TranscribeX different from Hyprnote?

Both are local meeting note takers with no bot. TranscribeX recognises speakers automatically, writes the summary with a built-in model, and can email it after each call. It costs $39 once. Anarlog is open source, runs on more platforms and offers cloud sync on Pro.
